Mukalo Productions is a not-for-profit music production company specialising in the management and promotion of artists from all over the world, especially Africa. The company offers a wide range of expertise including artist management, tour management and promotion, event production, education and training. Mukalo began in 1988 as a café venue in Brussels but subsequently mutated into the music management company Divano Productions before finally becoming Mukalo Productions in 2009. Founder Michel Winter has managed many leading global music acts since 1990, including Taraf of Haidouks, Kocani Orkestar, Konono No.1, Tartit Ensemble, Kasai Allstars and Staff Benda Bilili.
In an uncertain world beset by increasingly stringent restrictions on the movement of musicians from Africa and other disadvantaged parts of the world, as well as a collapsing global record industry, Mukalo Productions aims to apply years of experience and accumulated knowledge to sustaining and developing the careers of world-renowned artists and investing time, money and energy in emerging talent. The company sees the revival and re-energising of popular traditional music cultures in parts of the world where they are often on a slow path to extinction as its main challenge, whilst respecting the natural desire for modernity among younger generations and encouraging a vigorous creativity capable of renewing musical traditions and ensuring their survival.
